Technology at Oak Hill Elementary

The students at Oak Hill have the world at their fingertips. All twenty-three classrooms are equipped with at least one computer that is linked to the Internet and E-mail. All classrooms have access to one of our printers and are equipped with a telephone.  The school is equipped with one  main server and two other servers used for email and proxy of the internet usage.

Oak Hill students also participate in a reading program entitled Accelerated Reader (AR). This program encourages our younger students to be good listeners and reinforces reading comprehension. Students read or have read to them a book from the AR book list. They then take a test over that book on a computer. Students are awarded points for passing these tests. Competitions are a favorite part of the AR program. Prizes are awarded to classes and individuals that accumulate the most points.

We have a wide variety of instructional software that makes learning fun. Our software covers all grade levels and subjects. We hope to expand our software library each year.  We now have Plato learning program in the computer lab and all Compaq computers that are in the classrooms.  Power Point , Excel and word processing is taught to 2nd grade and up.  Breakthrough to Literacy is in the classrooms of all Kindergarten and first grade classrooms with 4 computers in each classroom.

The Computer Lab consists of six  printers and thirty computers of which all thirty are linked to the Internet.  We do use a Smart Board and laptop to conduct whole group instruction and for the students to do presentations of their projects.

We have a STLP with fifth grade students conducting a news cast that is shown throughout the building.  We have a monthly newspaper that is put together by the help of fourth grade students and teacher with the use of technology.
